Early Autumn

Autumn In The Garden.

Early Autumn

Planting – Many plants prefer the soil to be cool even cold when they are put in the ground while others like the soil with some warmth still.

These latter ones are the plants you put in the ground in early to mid Autumn.

This gives the plants a chance to get themselves set and growing strong before the colder weather sets in.

Autumn jobs – There are many jobs to do around the garden in Autumn, if you live where the trees shed their leaves in the winter, then you will be looking at some spectacular sights. Autumn brings on such wonderfully warm colors, the reds, russets, golds, bronze and the gardens can be magnificent.

Then these leaves start to fall, yes! that’s where Autumn got its other name, Fall. Depending what is in your garden and what is over the fence from your neighbors’ gardens, you may feel you have a leaf-rake grafted to your hand.

Gardens are not only about growing plants etc, they are about recycling. The leaves you rake up can be recycled either to the compost bins or as mulch on the gardens.

With regard to leaves being used for mulch, I use my mower to mulch up the leaves, I rake them into a pile on the pavers then in I push the mower through the pile, the clippings are then in the catcher and all ready for the compost bin or straight on the garden. I do have a few additives I use to boost the mulch.

I have a little more on mulching here – read all about it click here.

Yes! long before recycling became so popular, gardeners were doing it because it made such good sense.
