WordPress Plugins
Here is some of my “Stash of WordPress Neat Things” that I would like to share with you. I’m finding the more I learn about WP the more I am liking it, still lots to learn…. ![]()
On with the Stash

NEW!
Google Analytics Plugin
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/google-analytics-for-wordpress/
Author: Joost de Valk
The Google Analytics for WordPress plugin automatically tracks and segments all outbound links from within posts, comment author links, links within comments, blogroll links and downloads. It also allows you to track AdSense clicks, add extra search engines, track image search queries and it will even work together with Urchin.
In the options panel for the plugin, you can determine the prefixes to use for the different kinds of outbound links and downloads it tracks.
http://www.synclastic.com/plugins/privacy-policy/
At the end of February, 2008, Google started requiring AdSense publishers to display a privacy policy on all sites that displayed AdSense ads or search boxes. Since many WordPress blogs are monetized with AdSense, I decided to write a plugin that would automate the creation of AdSense-compliant privacy policies for WordPress users. Thus the Privacy Policy Plugin for WordPress was born.

Sitemap Generator Plugin for WordPress
http://www.dagondesign.com/articles/sitemap-generator-plugin-for-wordpress/
This plugin creates a sitemap for your WordPress powered site. This is not just another XML sitemap plugin, but rather a true sitemap generator which is highly customizable from its own options page in the WordPress admin panel. Some of its features include: support for multi-level categories and pages, category/page exclusion, multiple-page generation with navigation, permalink support, choose what to display, what order to list items in, show comment counts and/or post dates, and much more.
Google XML Site Map Generator
http://www.arnebrachhold.de/projects/wordpress-plugins/google-xml-sitemaps-generator/
This plugin will create a Google sitemaps compliant XML-Sitemap of your WordPress blog. It supports all of the WordPress generated pages as well as custom ones. Everytime you edit or create a post, your sitemap is updated and all major search engines that support the sitemap protocol, like ASK.com, Google, MSN Search and YAHOO, are notified about the update.
My Page Order
http://geekyweekly.com/mypageorder
Gives you manual control over the order of your WordPress pages by letting you easily set an explicit order. Works with subpages too. Now with built-in Widget support.

Social Bookmarking Reloaded
http://www.valent-blog.eu/social-bookmarking-reloaded/
The Social Bookmarking RELOADED plugin for WordPress adds a list of XHTMLcompliant graphic links at the end of your posts and/or pages that allow your visitors to easily submit them in a number of social bookmarking sites. Furthermore, the plugin adds a page in the WordPress admin section that lets you customize it.
There are heaps of contact form plugins, the first one I use, very simple, haven’t tried the others yet.
WP-Contact Form
http://www.douglaskarr.com/projects/wp-contactform/
cformsII – contact form
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/cforms/
WP Easy contact
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/easy- contact/
Easy Contact is a simple contact form that utilizes the Sandbox design patterns to create a highly semantic, XHTML-based contact form you can insert using [easy-contact] on any page or post.
WordPress Automatic Upgrade Plugin
http://techie-buzz.com/wordpress-plugins/wordpress-automatic-upgrade-plugin.html
I’ve used this plugin about four times now and the only thing that didn’t work was the auto activating of the plugins, the last step. That could have been because my computer was on a ‘dolly step’ day but was no hassle to do it manually. When using this plugin, and you do that through the Manage section of your site, there is a fully automatic option but the CLICK HERE step option is recommended. Makes upgrading so,so easy.
Also with the latest version of WordPress 2.5+, when there is an upgrade for a plugin, it can all be done automatically via the Plugin Page, I like that too.
WP Database Backup
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-db-backup/
WP-DB-Backup allows you easily to backup your core WordPress database tables. You may also backup other tables in the same database.
Video Quick Tags
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/vipers-video-quicktags/
Tired of copying and pasting the embed HTML from sites like YouTube? Then this plugin is for you.
Just simply click one of the new buttons that this plugin adds to the write screen (rich editor included) and then paste the URL that the video is located at into the prompt box — easy as that. You can fully configure how the videos are displayed (width, height, colors, alignment on the page) and much more. Your site will even stay (X)HTML valid unlike with the code provided by most video sites.
Sidebar Widgets
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/widgets/
It’s called Sidebar Widgets because it allows you to move things (widgets) around, in and out of your sidebar. A widget is something that you might want on your sidebar, such as a category list or the most recent comments or a link to your admin pages. There is even a widget that lets you type whatever you want in the sidebar, such as some HTML or Javascript code.
This is the other helpful tip/plugin I’ve found. Haven’t used the plugin yet but have seen some sites that have and it’s neat too.
I’ve changed over a few of my older domains to new WP sites and to combat that awful Error 404 page looking like it does, I used the tip on this page below. What I’ve done is put a message and a link list of articles that are on the site that may help the visitor. You can put any message you like. Also if you don’t have a 404.php file the site below shows you how to add one, did that too and that works fine.
Error 404 pages

This is the plugin

Scheduled Post Shift Plugin
http://www.dagondesign.com/articles/scheduled-post-shift-plugin-for-wordpress/
This is a pretty neat plugin, especially if you don’t want to keep updating a site. It takes the oldest post on your site and updates the timestamp so it appears like the latest post. Apparently from what I was told by an ‘expert’ there is no problem with duplicate posts as it is the ‘one’ post, just updated. That made sense to me, sometimes that’s not hard though

These are both handy now that WP templates are mostly widget ready
Folding Pages Widget
http://navyroad.com/2007/09/04/folding-pages-widget/
This one below lets you put the pages in any order you like, just drag and drop. You can use it without having the widget sidebar, you only need to add a little piece of code to the sidebar template. Did that too and it works well.
My Page Order
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/my-page-order/
WP-o-Matic
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-o-matic/
WP-o-Matic makes autoblogging a snap by automatically creating posts from the RSS/Atom feeds you choose, which are organized into campaigns.
Permalink Redirect
http://scott.yang.id.au/code/permalink-redirect/
Permalink Redirect provides a solution where a page on a WordPress site can be accessed via multiple URLs. It ensures each post can only be accessed by one true URL defined by the permalink structure, and other URLs used to access that page will get a 301 redirect to that true permalink.
It is useful for SEO purposes to eliminate duplicated contents
WP e-Commerce
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-e-commerce/
The WP e-Commerce shopping cart plugin for WordPress is an elegant easy to use fully featured shopping cart application suitable for selling your products, services, and or fees online.
Events-Calendar
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/events-calendar/
Events-Calendar is a diverse replacement for the original calendar included with WordPress adding many useful functions to keep track of your events. The plugin has an easy to use admin section that displays a big readable calendar and lets you add and delete events. The plugin is widget ready
Subscribe2
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/subscribe2/

WordTube
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordtube/
This plugin manages the JW FLV MEDIA PLAYER 4.1 and makes it easy for you to put music, videos or flash movies onto your WordPress posts and pages. Various skins for the JW PLAYER are available via www.jeroenwijering.com
SEO Title Tag
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/seo-title-tag/
Title tags are arguably the most important of the on-page factors for search engine optimization (“SEO”). It blows my mind how post titles are also used as title tags by WordPress, considering that post titles should be catchy, pithy, and short-and-sweet; whereas title tags should incorporate synonyms and alternate phrases to capture additional search visibility.
MailPress
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/mailpress/
Allows you to send beautiful and styled html and plain text mails based on dedicated themes and templates.
Several add-ons are available as zip files in the mailpress folder. They are in fact WordPress plugins interacting with MailPress. The basic idea is to keep the core of MailPress as stable as possible and to use the WordPress API to propose some add ons, making MailPress completely scalable to your needs.

Image Headlines
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/image-headlines/
This plugin allows you to have images created automatically for your entry titles. In this way you can utilize non-standard fonts and get smoother rendering than would be possible with simple text headlines. New to this version is improved integration with the WordPress administration interface under WordPress 1.5 Strayhorn as well as genuine soft-shadows behind the text for that smooth, custom look the girls love.
WP Mail SMTP
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-mail-smtp/
This plugin reconfigures the wp_mail() function to use SMTP instead of mail() and creates an options page that allows you to specify various options.
You can set the following options: * Specify the from name and email address for outgoing email. * Choose to send mail by SMTP or PHP’s mail() function. * Specify an SMTP host (defaults to localhost). * Choose to use SMTP authentication or not (defaults to not). * Specify an SMTP username and password.

Latest version now has an uninstall, allowing all eShop data to be removed from the database, and files deleted where necessary.
Kramer
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/kramer/
Kramer will add inbound links to a post on your weblog as pingbacks without the need for the author of the post on blog A to send a ping to blog B by using both Technorati and by monitoring incoming referrers.
What this means is that pingback, trackback and other post-pinging tools are no longer required, as all links to a post will be found and shown as pingbacks. To show links to the main weblog, or to other pages in general, a function called kramer_inbound() is provided. It can be used in WordPress templates to display a list of the latest inbound links to that page. It is usually included in the sidebar of a blog and can be fully configured via the Kramer administration interface.
WP-opt-in
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-opt-in/
This plugin can be used to send e-mail to users wanting specific information. The front side of the ‘WP Opt-in’ plugin is a simple form with an e-mail input field and a submit button. By entering an e-mail address into the field and pressing submit, an e-mail is sent automatically to the specified address.
Simple Flash Video
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/simple-flash-video/
Allows the addition of FLV and MP4 video to blog posts powered by Jeroen Wijering’s FLV Media Player, SWFObject by Geoff Stearns, and ThickBox by by Cody Lindley.

The Business Directory plugin for WordPress is an easy way to host a free directory page for your readers, affiliates, advertisers, community or club members. Invite them to submit a simple advertisement listing for themselves on your blog.

WP & SMF
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-smf-a-simplemachines-bridge/
A WordPress bridge for complete user integration. There are also some site integration features.
SMFWordPress requires WPSMF 1.06 to be installed (as a plugin) in WordPress. The two work together to maintain nearly identical user databases. Previous users may also be imported into WordPress or SMF. They allow both WordPress and SMF to function independantly without compromising functionality.
These are some links that could come in useful.
